Krista's Story: Always on the Move

I’ve had the travel bug for as long as I can remember. Thanks to my dad’s army career, I was a pro at packing boxes before I even hit my teens. From Ontario to Calgary to Halifax, and back to London, Ontario – my teenage stomping grounds where I tried (mostly) to stay out of trouble.

Post-high school, I dove into the world of travel and tourism, living the dream as a travel agent. But life had other plans, and I pirouetted into a career as a ballroom and Latin dance instructor. Talk about a plot twist!

A chance encounter in Cuba led me to my next adventure – pharmacy. I packed my bags for Canmore, Alberta, trekking around the Rockies before landing in Vancouver. What a wild ride that was!

Eventually, my family called me back to Ontario. I found myself in the fast-paced world of pharmacy, climbing the ranks and taking on new challenges. But little did I know, the biggest adventure was waiting just around the corner – meeting Ralph.

Ralph's Story: Breaking Free & Finding His Way

I was born and raised in northern Minnesota, into a very religious household. No TV’s, no movies, no video games, that was my childhood.  I learned to love sports by listening to the Minnesota Twins and the Minnesota Vikings games on the radio. Talk about old school!

But by the age of 18, I knew I needed more. It took a few years, a stint at Bible college, and a move to Pennsylvania before I really started finding my true self.  Thanks to dual citizenship, I moved to Northern Ontario for a maintenance job at a less conservative church.  I learned many useful skills there, working with my hands and fixing anything broken. (thanks YouTube) That is also where I had my first beer at age 23. Better late than never, right?

A job opportunity landed me in Waterloo Ontario, where I really began to find my path. My millwright career took off, and then came the real game-changer – meeting Krista.

Krista and Ralph Take On the World

We hit it off right away in 2012. After Krista introduced Ralph to a crash course in pop culture, we settled into a life full of adventures, sports, and inside jokes that only make sense to us.

After a home-run proposal at a Blue Jays game, we tied the knot in 2015. We knew two things for sure: we’d be childfree by choice, and our lives would revolve around our next big travel adventure.

We started with a few fun all-inclusive trips, but our first true travel adventure in London and Paris? That’s when we got hooked. Since then, we’ve road-tripped through Italy, backpacked across Thailand, and hiked our way through Peru – just to name a few of our escapades.

Now, we’re gearing up for our next big adventure – creating a community where child-free travelers can connect!

Hobbies

We enjoy many hobbies together. - Golfing - Camping - Hiking - Trivia Nights at the pub - Watching football on Sunday - Taking in a Toronto Blue Jays game - And OBVIOUSLY traveling

Destinations

We have not been everywhere, but it's on the list. We have been to places like England, France, Italy, Thailand, Peru, Portugal, and many all inclusive vacations to the Carrabin.

adventure

When we travel, we like to seek adventure. We spent 4 days hiking the Inca Trail in Peru. We rented a car in Sicily so we could see the country like a local. And we took a jet boat in Thailand to swim with sharks.

together

Wherever we go, and whatever we do, it's always better together. Not having kids to slow us down is amazing. It also helps the travel budget stretch further allowing us to stay longer or do more exciting adventures.

More About

Our destinations

Our first international trip together was to London England and Paris France in 2016.

London was great. lots of museums, pub crawls, fish n chips, and history.

Paris on the other hand was experiencing the flood of the century.  Even though in all our pictures we are wearing the same rain coats, we still made the most of it.  🙂 We got to see lots of museums, art, the eiffel to tower at night, eat amazing baguettes, and see some incredible cathedrals.

in 2017 we took a trip to Italy, the land of wine and pasta.

We spent several days in Rome before renting a car and heading through the Tuscany hill towns.  We spent a few days in Florence before heading over to the Cinque Terre area and eventually on to Venice.

We headed to Thailand in 2019.  The flight was long, but the country is so so beautiful.  We had many adventures in Thailand. Night markets, Elephant sanctuaries, hiking, temples, beaches, street food, it was all incredible, and we highly recommend visiting Thailand to all our friends.

covid delayed our trip from 2020 to 2022, but we finally made it happen.  We hiked many many miles in Peru, but our favorite hike was the 4 day hike on the Inca Trail ending at Machu Picchu.  The elevation is not for the faint of heart that’s for sure. Peru also offered a different cultural experience.  So fascinating to learn about the history of the Peruvian people.

In 2024 we headed to Portugal.  And after a 48h whirlwind in Lisbon, we headed to the little island of Madeira (which is just off the coast of Africa)  Madeira is a very mountainous island with tons of hiking trails, and sandy beaches along the coats.  it was the perfect combination of hiking in the morning and relaxing on a beach in the afternoon.

Since we met in 2012 we have been to the Caribbean countless times. Including 2 weeks in Cancun Mexico for our honeymoon in 2015.  We have seen Jamacia, Dominican Republic, and Cuba.  We love a good relaxing beach vacation.  We distinguish traveling from vacationing. Both have their place.
